Sick
Sunday, 4 February, 2007
I’ve been feeling down for most of the weekend, and I spent it streaming, downloading and watching Heroes anyway.
I’m supporting a sore throat, a fever and a drowsy feeling. I think I’ll be sick in another 2 to 3 days.
I am behind schedule for my revision for tomorrow’s midterm, haven’t finished assignments due Monday, and well, I’m blogging it down.
I’m sick.
Chemistry
Sunday, 4 February, 2007
My chemistry has been on the brink of falling off the cliff. I just zero-ed my quiz last week, has been spending the whole weekend planning and trying to decipher the chapters, and I’m still back at the starting point.
I don’t know what my point is, but hey I don’t see the same problems with macroeconomics or accounting classes you know. Either business prerequisites are a joke, or I’m pursuing the wrong thing. I have another 2 quarters left in my college, transferring to a 4-year in another 6 months, and I’m not so sure of my direction. Am I screwed?
No racism in Singapore?
Saturday, 3 February, 2007
There are many reasons I have stopped subscribing to Xiaxue’s RSS. Other than the fact that most of her posts are self-promoting, juvenile and just plan meaningless, I don’t feel that she has embraced her traffic influence seriously.
The other day I was at her blog looking for nose-job documentations. And then I came across this post. The video content was about 2 Chinese men harassing an Indian Muslim stallholder, and demanding for pork dishes despite repeated clarifications by the stallholder that they “don’t serve pork”. I take it that if there is ever any attempt for humor it was the thick Indian accent. Apparently there were 260+ comments for that particular comments, of which most are in agreement with xiaxue’s “super funny lar” view of the video. Comments were taken down for the post by the blog admin as of now.
Staged or not, the podcast is downright crude, racist, and shame on Xiaxue to promote and comment it as “super funny lar”. If you’ve seen or heard this footage, you wouldn’t have laughed. There’s no punch in it, there is no humor, only pure insult.
Who says there is no racism in Singapore? Of course the majority of the Chinese Singaporean population may not feel it, and many would not even be aware of their racist behavior and perspective, but racism is abundant in Singapore. Tell me that I’m over-reacting and I’d say that you are racist. Being apathetic is not even good enough. You have to speak up! If Singapore is going to move ahead in social harmony and understanding, we have to raise awareness among everyone. This Indonesian author hopes the same can be done between native Indonesians and Chinese Indonesians.
Shame on you, Xiaxue. I would strongly suggest she put the post down, and for everyone else to only distribute the video/podcast with a note of disgust and only to create awareness of what NOT to do. But then again, this is not the first time xiaxue’s made a fool out of herself and bloggersphere.
