Being back home

Monday, 28 August, 2006

On my way cycling to East Coast, I met two friends, Pakin who is 2 years my junior, and Joan who was my ex-classmate of 4 years.

Joan was jogging along the beach when she spotted me and shouted for my name. I stopped and we had a brief conversation about life in general, her JC days, my Uni days, catching up on friends… Joan was supposed to come for the 4A steamboat dinner that we had last week, but she mistook it for next week, so she didn’t attend it (the blur sotong she is).

I remember mentioning that I detest food in America, in general. From quality to price, Singapore food beats that in America hands down. Well, except for quantity. America has a bad habit of serving more to shadow their lack of quality. When will they ever learn that quantity can never cover up for a lack of quality?

I was saying that maybe I should do some research on my prospects of transferring back to the local universities. But I know deep down that I want to stay in Seattle. I don’t know why, I guess I’m getting used to the whole American hospitality and culture. Coming back to Singapore was a little of a culture shock to me, did you know? I had a hard time trying to blend in 3 languages in a single sentence, trying to keep myself dry most of the day, trying to speak in short cuts and crude ways to people of the service industry, just because they don’t get my formal courteous and long-winded american-accented speech.

That aside, I’m enjoying every minute of reminiscence I’m having. Toodles.

Cheap thrills of life

Sunday, 27 August, 2006

I searched my phone for her contact number, then dialed it.

“Hello, can I speak to asdf?”

“Oh, she not in. OK? Bye bye…”

“Umm wait. Do you have her cellphone number?”

“Eh…Sorry, I don’t know…”

“OK, thank you .”

“Sorry ah. Who’s this speaking?”

“Mmm, I’m her friend. Thank you, bye”

Hiak hiak, cheap thrills of life. Woe is mua.

Photos

After 2 hours of painstaking editing with picasa (because I am yet to purchase my illegal pirated photoshop), I am finally done editing the pictures that were taken for the past few days.

Enjoy, friends.

Little known fact

Sunday, 27 August, 2006

I’m back in my slacking off, boxers and no shirt, hunched back, messy haired self. You know, one of those days.

I should recover back some of those momentum that I had when I first touched down a few days back. Maybe visit my Alma Mater and help out with Teachers’ Day or something.

Sigh.

ps: Apparently Seth aka GatheringWool is Junyi! How he make those pretty comics one ah? Junyi, reply me leh!

My Singaporean Friends

Saturday, 26 August, 2006

The past few days have been heartwarming for me. All the memories that I have in Singapore are coming back to me again(not that I am having amnesia or anything).

I am reminded once again that I have a strong group of friends here in Singapore.

The kind of friends that sacrifice their studying time just to meet up with me. The kind of friends that spend time checking with tens of other friends to see if they are availabe to meet up with me. The kind of friends that let me decide on the venue and time of the meet up, and then go on to update everyone of the meeting. The one who organize everything without me having to lay a finger or break a sweat.

The kind of friends that SMS you, call you on your local number, email you, put up a blog post in their own blog just to find out or confirm that I am coming to Singapore, just because I was lazy forgot to inform them about it.

The kind of friends who keep themselves updated with whatever’s going on with my life, and the kind that share with me theirs, minus facades, lies or deception. The kind that are just glad to meet me again. The kind who only need a stool to seat round a table and converse their hearts away until the sky turns dark. The one who even suggested thatI should bring a video camera and tripod the next time we meet up a year from now, and record whatever wacky, witty, crazy, dirty conversation we are having.

I am thinking that I should even take a picture of each lady that we spend time ogling at.

These friends are the ones I’d take a bullet for. :)

Rant

Thursday, 24 August, 2006

Gmail is down.

iShop “authorized reseller” down at cineleisure has bad service. There I was, one of the many interested customers browsing through the products, trying my best to figure out how to use the few software… while all of the salespeople are busy engaged in a game of “Call of Duty”. Wag of the finger for iShop @ Cineleisure.

I forgot to bring my iPod USB.

I forgot to bring my Shaver.

Ton and Marc ditched me/us and I had to date Choon mano el mano.

Singapore’s sun is getting too hot for my own liking. Sticky, moist and smelly under the armpits(and other pits known to man).

F810 will need a week to fix. He’ll be missed.

Tur Kwa Shirt

Thursday, 24 August, 2006

I went to Hereen first thing in the morning to purchase the limited edition mrbrownshow.com Tur Kwa T-shirt. The classical trend-setting Bak Chor Mee man podcast can be found here.

I was in such a hurry that I didn’t even re-check the shop selling it: Action City! I had to trouble Kevin to double-check for me while I scout through the whole level 3 looking for the friggin’ shirt in random clothes stores. And now I had to purchase another shirt for Kevin.

I had to purchase their shirt to show my support. Especially after all the ridiculous hardship and heartache that Mr B had to go through for the stupid government’s lack of humor. I had to purchase their shirt even more now that the PM had decided to put in a loosely-structured paragraph just to mention Mr B. I personally think that half of what PM Lee said was contradicting his point. No seriously, everything in the speech was OK before he start mentioning Mr. B in it and started putting him down like that. I bet he doesn’t even read Today Newspaper. PM Lee’s speech portion on digital age can be found here.

Go Mr. B!=) God speed!

Uncle Su Landed in Singa of P

Wednesday, 23 August, 2006

After much difficulty and a whole lot of patience, Uncle Su finally did it; writing his blog post in a dial-up connection!

The whole jet lag thing is catching up on his fragile old physique, but nonetheless he did well today. Bak Chor Mee, Carrot cake(black), duck rise, ice kachang and Katong Laksa. Well done, Uncle Su!

Oh, Blissss….

Singapore-Bound

Monday, 21 August, 2006

I will be touching down in my second home country that is Singapore in less than 24 hours. And I cannot be more excited for myself!

All the packing! All the organizing. All that cleaning! SO FUN! (*Hyperventilates, fan fan…!!*)
And I will be munching my way through heavenly Singaporean delicacies. Muahahaha!

Oh and I get to meet Mom and my friends. (Almost forget, phew…)

Edit: I did hella well for my final papers and can probably pull up my lackluster quarter’s grade by a bit. 4.0 for Physics and 3.7 for Differential equations. Mind boggling! Cheers!

OK…

Saturday, 19 August, 2006

Why the fuck do them Indons refer to themselves as “Aku” and “Kamu” when they’re talking to their romantic partners, byt uses Gue and Loe in other cases? I don’t, and I don’t understand the point behind that. You mean, once she’s your girlfriend then you have to start calling her in such a formal way, just to show what again, affection? BAH.

Sounds so fuggin’ fake, can? Facade, anyone?

Gimme’ real world anytime now.

End of Summer, start of Oasis!

Friday, 18 August, 2006

School ended today with a bang. Well not exactly with a bang, but the ending part is right.

I will be busy with a lot of todo list items and nitty gritty admin stuff. Like, buying souvenirs?

And I will be in Singapore by next Wednesday, yippie!

Happy Birthday, Indonesia

Thursday, 17 August, 2006

Before I forget the independence day of the other country I care most (Forgot Singapore mah), HAPPY BIRTHDAY INDONESIA!!

When Suicide Seems Real

Thursday, 17 August, 2006

I was reading UW’s summer daily and saw this piece on suicide awareness.

It was saying that some of the symptoms of a suicidal person include lack of appetite, withdrawing from friends and family, unable of sleep (or over sleeping), short temper, short attention span and very impatient.

I for one am against suicides. I like to think in a logical and economic way. I think that no matter how bad life is, it beats having you losing your life. That, my friend, is a big f87k up.

Killing yourself just means that you have the rest of your life as opportunity cost, which is frankly quite dumb to barter with.

To all of you out there pondering over committing suicides: Live.

Anthem of the day 17/8/06

Wednesday, 16 August, 2006

  • One Man Wrecking Machine - Guster

Oh gimme a break from all the bull the world has to offer. Screw y’all. Better yet, screw each other so we’ll have more of you screwy people, jolly yes.

Delicious screwed up

Tuesday, 15 August, 2006

Update: Contacted support@del.icio.us and my page went back to normal in a few hours. Strange thing.
OMG, I just realized that my screwed up delicious view, as seen in Del.icio.us Minima is only applicable for my firefox browser! It looked fine when I checked it on campus, or even when I am viewing it from Flock. Damn it, I’m trying to recall what I screwed up in firefox for the past few days…

Somebody help me!

Going Bananas(and Durians) over Physics

Tuesday, 15 August, 2006

Uncle Su has decided that science will not be something that he will dabble with for life. He has decided that he will be earning an obscene amount of money out of them scientists instead. Something like growing a whole farm of lab-rats and making them generate electricity by running on mill-wheels. Something like that.

Now, where’s that bullet magazine?

Del.icio.us Minima

Monday, 14 August, 2006

Hmm, interesting. Is Del.icio.us supporting a new strip-it-all bare-it-to-the-world theme? Looks a helluva lot like Sandbox, the new “theme” wordpress came out with.

Tech support, where art though!

A wasted weekend

Monday, 14 August, 2006

My past weekend has been wasted on blogging fascinations and a helluva lot of sleep. This despite the fact that next week is my finals week and other people are waaay ahead of me in terms of revision, practice and such.

The week ahead looked so foreboding, which is a tad consoled by the thought that I will be back in Sunny Singapore for the summer in a week’s time. But I have to bear in mind that I have to settle all that mess, bills and class registrations and ticket confirmation. And I think I am out of SGDs… Hope my friends back in Singapore can lend me some pity money then.

(Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy is playing in a one-track repeat in my head, and my iPod is going bonkers with all that on/off battery full/battery low tantrum fit.)

Yeah, its time I get some rest from the weekend. Hello, Monday.
